Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has alleged that some senators were offered substantial sums of money to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, adding to a series of recent public claims surrounding the controversial parliamentary process.

Speaking in a media interview, Maanzo claimed that he was personally approached by individuals he described as operatives close to the government and offered KSh 10 million to vote in favour of the impeachment. He said he rejected the alleged offer and also claimed he faced threats related to how he would vote. These are allegations made by the senator, and no court or investigative authority has verified them.

His remarks follow similar statements made in recent days by other politicians, including Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Lang’ata MP Jalang’o, who also alleged that money changed hands during the impeachment process. The claims have intensified public debate over the integrity of the proceedings and prompted renewed calls from Gachagua and his allies for investigations into the allegations.

As of now, no official investigative agency has released findings confirming that senators or MPs were bribed during the impeachment process. The allegations remain unproven, and no criminal charges have been announced in relation to the claims.

The controversy is expected to remain a major political issue as Kenya’s leaders continue to trade accusations ahead of the 2027 General Election, with growing calls for transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.
