Celebrations have erupted across Ol Kalou as Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho opens a commanding lead in the parliamentary by-election, with provisional results continuing to trickle in.
DCP Supporters Celebrate Across Ol Kalou
Supporters of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho erupted into celebrations on Thursday evening as provisional results from the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election showed him taking a commanding lead.
Across several tallying centres and trading centres, jubilant supporters sang, danced and waved DCP party flags as vote counting continued.
Early Results Favour Ngotho
As provisional results continued to be published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ngotho maintained a significant lead over his closest challenger, UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah.
With more than half of the polling stations counted, Ngotho had secured over 85% of the votes tallied, although the results remained provisional pending the official declaration by the IEBC.
Celebrations Continue Despite Official Declaration Pending
Supporters described the early results as a major victory for the DCP party and gathered in various parts of Ol Kalou to celebrate while awaiting the official announcement.
Party officials, however, urged supporters to remain peaceful and allow the IEBC to complete the tallying process before celebrating an official victory.
A Politically Significant Contest
The Ol Kalou by-election has attracted nationwide attention, with political analysts viewing it as a major test of political influence in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, making the mini-poll one of the country’s most closely watched elections.
