Nation Media Group has condemned the violent attack on its journalists covering the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after an NTV cameraman was allegedly assaulted and equipment seized.
Journalists Attacked While Covering Elections
Nation Media Group (NMG) has strongly condemned the attack on its journalists who were covering the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County.
According to the media house, the incident occurred at AC Primary School polling station, where members of the press had been deployed to report on the electoral process.
NTV Cameraman Allegedly Beaten, Equipment Seized
NMG said an NTV cameraman was allegedly tasered, beaten and robbed of his camera, while a Nation Media Group reporter was reportedly threatened at gunpoint and had her mobile phone confiscated by armed individuals.
The media house described the incident as a serious attack on journalists carrying out their constitutional duty to inform the public.
Nation Media Group Condemns the Incident
In a statement, NMG Board Chairman Joe Muganda condemned the attack, saying violence against journalists is an assault on press freedom and the public’s right to receive accurate and timely information.
“The assault on our journalists is an attack not only on members of our staff but also on the principles of press freedom and the public’s right to receive timely and accurate information,” Muganda said.
Calls for Investigation
Nation Media Group has called on security agencies to launch an immediate investigation, bring those responsible to justice, and ensure journalists are protected while covering matters of public interest, particularly elections.
The attack has also drawn condemnation from media stakeholders, who warned that intimidation of journalists undermines transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of journalists during elections in Kenya, with media organizations urging authorities to guarantee a secure environment for reporters and camera crews carrying out their work.
