East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega says he went into hiding after his convoy was allegedly pursued by armed men he believed to be police officers following campaign activities in Ol Kalou.
EALA MP Claims He Escaped an Armed Pursuit
East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has claimed he narrowly escaped an alleged armed attack after campaign activities in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.
Speaking from what he described as a hideout in Oljororok, Kega said his convoy was pursued by three vehicles carrying armed men whom he believed were police officers as he travelled toward Nyahururu after the close of campaigns for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
“We Managed to Escape”
In a video shared on social media, Kega alleged that the armed men pointed guns at his convoy and that his vehicle was hit by gunfire during the incident.
He said he and members of his team fled the scene and sought refuge in a nearby house, adding that they were safe but shaken by the ordeal. Kega also claimed he handed over a live bullet and a broken gun component, which he said were recovered after the incident, to police.
Police Launch Investigations
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into Kega’s allegations are underway.
Nyandarua security officials said they are looking into the incident to establish exactly what happened. Officials have not confirmed Kega’s allegation that those involved were police officers, and investigations are continuing.
Kega Vows to Stay in Ol Kalou
Despite the incident, Kega said he would continue campaigning for his preferred candidate and would not be intimidated.
He maintained that he intends to remain in Ol Kalou until the by-election process is completed, describing the alleged attack as an attempt to intimidate him and his political allies.
