Former Laikipia Governor and current Kenya Revenue Authority Chairperson Ndiritu Muriithi has officially rejected joining the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and instead announced his bid for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat under the newly formed Reform Party of Kenya (RPK).

The announcement ends months of political speculation surrounding Muriithi’s next political move ahead of the 2027 General Election. According to reports, Muriithi stated that the Reform Party of Kenya aims to promote inclusive politics and avoid what he described as “balkanisation and isolationist politics” in the Mt Kenya region.

Muriithi, who previously served as Laikipia Governor between 2017 and 2022, is now positioning himself for a political comeback as competition for leadership in the Mt Kenya region intensifies. His decision is being viewed by political analysts as a major shift that could reshape alliances in Laikipia politics ahead of 2027.

The move also signals a growing trend of leaders forming or joining alternative political parties instead of aligning with dominant regional movements. Political observers believe the Reform Party of Kenya could emerge as a new force seeking national appeal beyond regional politics.
